CR3 Forum  - Caterham, Chaldon and Whyteleafe Referendum in 2014

The local CR3 Forum is now well established and getting ready for wider public meetings this September, to get feedback from as many local residents as possible, to create a Neighbourhood Plan. The group has been gathering information for the last year and about 70 people have been looking into different aspects of living and working in CR3, covering Caterham, Chaldon and Whyteleafe. Much more information is on their web site. A newsletter is about to be sent out to all those who have registered for news and will be released to local media too. The group will continue to work on a plan through the early part of 2014, leading to a local referendum on whether to adopt it or not in September 2014.

Soper Hall

Is establised as a popular and large venue for local events, after the Soper Hall Community Centre Ltd bid succeeded with Tandridge District Council in 2011. Refurbishment has already taken place to public areas and usage has increased. The car park is now controlled so that hirer's parking is available. Exciting plans are being developed for its future including rehousing the Caterham Library there.  Follow the Soper Hall link for more detail and we continue to wish them well and work with the team.

Caterham without Caterham

Sad to see the famouus town brand leave to go to Crawley. Thanks to all who supported them staying here. Waiting to see when Churchill Retirement Homes will start on the rebuilding and the Neighbourhood Plan an opportunity to rethink what the town does and does not need in the future.

The Square completed as part of "Shabby to Smart"

The improvements thanks to ABC's  projects at both The Square and the mini roundaboud a landmark for what a community project can achieve.

We regret that Nigel Wilkinson, who was a key member of our team, passed away before he could see  the results.

Overall we have:

-  reduced clutter, to make the area visually more  appealing
-  fewer railings and greater visibility
-  the installation of new planters; and other measures to make the area more attractive
-  a mini roundabout next to the ex Caterham Cars site

Join ABC at just £5 per year and be a part of this influential group for Caterham.

The ABC volunteer organisation became a more formal legal entity, called "The Caterham Community Partnership Ltd" and continues ABC's work and use of the ABC title. A board of twelve directors runs the legal entity and a larger management committee, involves up to 20 people from many aspects of life in Caterham, including representation from both Hill and Valley Parishes.

Throughout the community we have received much support and help, including that from many councillors in parish, district and county councils and significant assistance from officers. It's a partnership that crosses many groups and influences within the area and that is the intended style going forward too. We are pleased to be a founder member with the other teams in the CR3 Forum project.

A vote of thanks too for all the press help we have had, from Julia at The Caterham Independent particularly but also from the County Border News, Caterham Link, Caterham Mirror and Advertiser and the Tandridge Chronicle.

Join on-line by completing the form here, or sending an eMail with brief details to   A confirmation and an invoice will be sent to you. The fee is £5 although more is welcome!
